‘This is how business is done’…Man City “Kancelu good? Let’s swap him for Kimmich.”
Manchester City are planning to swap a player who has been left out of their plans for one of Europe’s best midfielders.
“City have expressed an interest in signing Joshua Kimmich,” British outlet 90min reported on the 27th (KST).
A key midfielder for Bayern Munich, Kimmich has been one of the Bundesliga’s best midfielders since moving to Munich in 2015. He has also played as a right-back in the past, but since joining the Bavarians, he has fully established himself as a defensive midfielder.안전놀이터
Kimmich has recently been linked with a new challenge in the summer transfer window, with some of Europe’s top clubs showing interest. With Barcelona having already identified Kimmich as a target, Man City have also been linked with a move, making the summer transfer window a fierce one.
According to 90min, “Man City are interested in signing Kimmich. Kimmich is considering his future in Munich and European clubs have realised he is looking for a new challenge. City are said to be in need of midfield reinforcements, with Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan both set to leave the club this summer, and have set their sights on Kimmich.
“City believe Kimmich will be able to slot seamlessly into their midfield as he has already worked under Pep Guardiola before,” the report added.
The outlet emphasised that City could make use of Joao Cancelo, who is on loan at Munich, to sign Kimmich.
Once City’s undisputed first-choice full-back, Kancelu’s form has dipped since the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and he has been pushed out of the starting line-up. His lack of playing time behind the likes of Leroy Sane and Nathan Ake led to his direct dissatisfaction with Guardiola, and a loan move to Munich in the winter transfer window paved the way for a turnaround.
Since joining Munich, Kancelu has been a consistent performer with one goal and four assists in 14 appearances, and has found himself back in the starting line-up, especially since the arrival of Thomas Tuchel.
“Kancelu has started more games since Tuchel’s arrival and Tuchel wants to keep him at Munich,” said 90min, suggesting that Kimmich and Kancelu could swap places if Tuchel and Guardiola get their way.
The potential departure of Kimmich, one of the best midfielders in Europe, could help City build their strongest squad yet next season. With the addition of a key player in the middle of the park, City’s transfer market strategy will be praised as much as their performances.
