No. 4 in Toronto history…homer in first at-bat, 849th rookie to do so
In the next start of the “Korean Monster” Hyun-jin Ryu (36-Toronto Blue Jays), keep an eye on Davis Schneider (24).
Schneider started in the sixth spot in the lineup and went 2-for-5 with one home run, one RBI and one run scored in a 7-3 win over Boston at Fenway Park in Massachusetts on Friday. Schneider, who was making his big league debut, struck first in the second inning. With the bases loaded and no outs in the top of the second, he pulled a three-pitch cut fastball from Boston starter James Paxton over the Green Monster in left field. The pitch hit 106.2 mph (170.9 km/h) and traveled 377 feet (114.9 meters).
“Schneider is only the fourth player in franchise history to hit a home run in his first MLB at-bat, joining Al Woods in 1977, Junior Felix in 1989 and J.P. Arencibia in 2010,” MLB.com, the official website of Major League Baseball, reported. Schneider said, “You think if you make a wish it will come true, but I didn’t think it would. I just wanted to get a good at-bat in my first at-bat. I didn’t expect it to happen at all,” he said, adding that he was overwhelmed. Schneider led the team in multi-hit games with an infield single in the seventh inning against Boston.
Schneider was selected by Toronto in the 28th round, 849th overall, of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft. He didn’t have high expectations when he was drafted, but has been a solid performer in the minors. Last year, he played a total of 113 games between high Single-A, Double-A, and Triple-A, batting .253 (383 at-bats) with 16 home runs and 56 RBIs. This season, he’s batting .275 (85-for-309) with 21 homers and 64 RBIs in 87 Triple-A games. His on-base percentage (0.416) and slugging percentage (0.553) combine for a .969 OPS.토토사이트
He had a day to remember in his first big league call-up on May 5, hitting a home run in his first at-bat. MLB.com used the phrase “monster debut” to describe Schneider’s performance.
