Miss McIlroy… PGA “Everyone get on the Kim Joo-hyung train”
McIlroy, let’s not participate in the first tournament of the year and
choose to participate in the DP World Tour
PGA, ‘Kim Joo-hyung floating’ every day
“Everyone get on the Kim Joo-hyung train!”
It seems that the US Professional Golf (PGA) Tour is trying to replace the vacancy of world No. 1 Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland) with Kim Joo-hyung (pictured).
Kim Joo-hyung appeared like a comet in the second half of last year and heated up the golf world. He won the PGA Tour Wyndham Championship in the 2021-2022 season, which he participated in August as a special temporary member, and then played an outstanding role in the Presidents Cup, an international team excluding Europe and the United States men’s golf group competition held in September. Following his momentum, Kim Joo-hyung reached the top at the Shriners Children’s Open, the third tournament of the 2022-2023 season. Thanks to this, at the end of last year, almost all golf media in the United States did not leave out Kim Joo-hyung as a player to watch in 2023.
The PGA Tour did not fall into this ranks. Ahead of his first tournament starting 2023, the Sentry Tournament of Champions (total prize money of $15 million), Kim Joo-hyung was once again in the spotlight. Along with a picture of Kim Joo-hyung, who was sponsored by global sports brand Nike this year, Trevor Immelman, Presidents Cup International Team Leader, praised Joo-hyung Kim, saying, “Kim Joo-hyung has enough qualities to become a next-generation global superstar.” He also detailed his family relationship, introduction to golf, and his growth process through various Asian countries such as the Philippines and Thailand. 토토
The PGA Tour is introducing Kim Joo-hyung to the public every day as if starting a large-scale project to make him a star player. It is also impossible to erase the impression that they were conscious of concerns that more players could leave the LIV Golf Invitational, which is sponsored by the Saudi Arabian sovereign wealth fund (PIF). Above all, it seems that McIlroy, who did not participate in the Sentry Tournament of Champions, the start of a special tournament introduced by the PGA Tour from this year, is replaced by using Kim Joo-hyung.
The Sentry Tournament of Champions, which joined the ranks of the PGA Tour’s special tournaments, nearly doubled its prize money from $8.2 million last year to $15 million this year.
However, McIlroy chose the DP World Tour, not the PGA Tour, as his first tournament in 2023. McIlroy will start his 2023 schedule by participating in the Dubai Desert Classic (total prize money of $9 million) to be held at Emirates Golf Club in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) on the 26th.
