Saeadang defeated Daegu Sangwon Go 5-4 in 10 extra innings in the semifinals of the 51st Green Phoenix National High School Baseball Tournament at Mokdong Stadium in Seoul on Saturday. Se-ad, which advanced beyond the quarterfinal stage for the first time in 20 years since 2003, is looking to win its first national title in 41 years after the 1982 Golden Lion title won by Song Jin-woo.
“The pitchers did a good job and the batters had a lot of heart,” said Bang Jin-ho, who led the team to the final in his first year in charge, after the semifinals. “The hitting came at the end and I’m looking forward to the final. We will lift the first phoenix trophy.”
In the other quarterfinal match, Daegu Go defeated Gyeongdong Go 13-5. Having won three titles in 2008, 2010, and 2018, Daegu is one win away from becoming the second most decorated team of all time. Bukil Go is the most decorated team (five titles), followed by Chungam Go, Gyeongbuk Go, and Busan Go (four titles apiece).
The long-awaited 51st Bonghwangdae Final will be held at the same venue at 12 noon on the 9th.
