Kim Kwang-seok, who joined the club as a trainee in 2002, remained with Pohang for 19 years until 2020, the longest of any player in the club’s history. He made 385 appearances in the K League, scoring nine goals and providing five assists. This is the club’s all-time record for most appearances. Kim Kwang-seok, a top center back who was dubbed the “Anbangmanim of the Steel Yard,” retired from Incheon United this season, ending his 21-year professional career.

Hwang Jin-sung, a former Pohang youth team player, was nicknamed “Hwang Kaka” for his flashy technique and accurate left-footed kicks. Hwang scored 47 goals and provided 58 assists in 279 K League games over an 11-year career from 2003 to 2013. He recorded the most offensive points (105) and most assists in the club’s history, and was named to the 2012 K League Best 11. He is fourth on the club’s all-time list for most appearances.

Pohang’s “local boy” goalkeeper Shin Hwa-yong was known as the “Hwaryong God” for 13 years, from 2004 to 2016. He was in goal for Pohang in 287 K League matches. He holds the club record for most games played by a goalkeeper and most clean sheets (94). In 2009, he was named to the K League Best 11. He is third on the club’s all-time list for most appearances.

Hwang Ji-soo was a “one-club man” synonymous with steadiness and integrity. In his 14-year career from 2004 to 2017, he scored six goals and provided 12 assists in 320 K League games. He was nicknamed “Pohang’s Gattuso” for his gritty play and ranks second on the club’s all-time appearances list. Since retiring, he has been working as the head coach of the Pohang U-18 team.

In 2013, the Pohang Steelers Hall of Fame inducted the late Park Tae-joon, Chairman Emeritus of POSCO, in the Contributors category, and the late Han Hong-ki, the first head coach, and Lee Hoe-taek in the Leaders category. In the player category, Park Kyung-hoon, Lee Heung-sil, Choi Sun-ho, Gong Moon-bae, Lee Sang-young, Park Tae-ha, Hwang Sun-hong, Hong Myung-bo, Rade, and Kim Ki-dong were inducted. They will be followed by Kim Kwang-seok, Hwang Jin-sung, Shin Hyung-yong, and Hwang Ji-soo when the club celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2023.

Pohang has named its upcoming home match against Jeonbuk Hyundai in the 15th round of the 2023 Hana One Q K League 1 at 4:30 p.m. on May 29 at the Steelyard as the Pohang Steelers 50th Anniversary Match. Prior to the match, the team will invite Hall of Fame inductees to perform a dedication ceremony.
